Always love coming here, however when you can, make sure you come when all the pond lilies are in bloom. It's a spectacular site.

It's a small area filled with manicured and beautiful plants as well as a flow of people. Walk one direction and you reach the busy street and another you reach a busy restaurant. There is no where to escape and listen to the birds, or relax and read a book. The plants are all very interesting but you are surrounded by cameras and security. If you are looking for a place to go for a run this isn't it, or if you want a private picnic, it's disappointing. If you want a restaurant with interesting and beautiful plant life, an entrance fee and tight security then you will have the right expectations.

A beautiful botanical garden in the middle of town. There are benches and grass plains all over the premises which make it perfect place to just sit and relax. Walk through the gift shop and be sure to visit the bonsai section. If you are fortunate to be in the garden at the right time of year you'll also be treated to a sight of water lilies in bloom.

It's difficult to believe there is so much in this modestly sized botanical garden in the centre of Stellenbosch. It has the biggest bonsai collection in Africa with about 200 trees, the oldest having become bonsai more than 80 years ago. The garden has several sections or biomes, including tree ferns, water plants, succulents such as the fascinating plants that look like stones and flower briefly but lavishly once a year, and their opposites in the luscious tropical plants greenhouse. There is also a food garden as well as rockery with plants from different arid areas. Entrance is R10 of which R5 is a voucher for the restaurant or the shop which sells plants, books with a plant theme and a good range of organic products from the area. Well worth many visits.
