Peaceful. Old. Made me feel such a sense of gratefulness and thankfulness for my ability to be able to travel all the way to Kyoto to see this Buddhist temple. Very few people. Lots of places to explore. Beautiful cherry blossoms (Sakura) . Would highly recommend it if you're looking for something with less frills and a place that remains "old world"
They were doing the special viewing for the fall color season. It was worth every yen of ¥1,200 I spent to go up on the Sanmon Gate (三門), tour the main building, and then chill in the garden. Gorgeous maple colors in the garden and great view from the gate. Considering how crowded the whole town was for the fall color tourism season, this place was relatively quiet, which was a huge added plus.
