We set off from Cusco in our cozy bus, ascending towards the charming town of Paucartambo. On the route, we explore the ancient Ninamarca funeral towers, relics of the Pre-Inca civilization.

Our journey continues through a stunning cloud forest, a haven for diverse flora including exotic orchids. This is where our first hike takes place, offering opportunities to spot Peru's national bird, the Cock of the Rocks (Rupicola Peruviana), various monkeys, and numerous bird species. If fortune favors us, we might even glimpse the rare Spectacled Bear (Tremarctos Ornatus), unique to South America.

Bamboo Lodge - Soga de Oro Lodge

After enjoying a delightful breakfast in the morning, the group is transferred to the port of Atalaya. Here, the adventure continues as we embark on a journey to our lodge, lasting about 45 minutes along the Alto Madre de Dios river. Guests have the opportunity to swim in the river if they wish. The lodge is fully equipped with amenities including toilets, a kitchen, dining room, showers, and rooms furnished with beds and mosquito nets. During our travel, breathtaking landscapes unfold, complemented by the warm climate of the rainforest. In the afternoon, we venture into the jungle for an exploratory walk lasting nearly two hours. This excursion offers a chance to observe various species, including creeping insects like spiders and tarantulas, as well as birds, monkeys, and an array of medicinal plants. The day concludes with a restful night in a traditional lodge, complete with showers, toilets, and private rooms.

Soga de Oro Lodge - Machuwasi Lake

Today, our morning is dedicated to a trek where we'll encounter majestic giant trees, an array of medicinal plants, exquisite orchids, and possibly even glimpse some large mammals like tapirs. This journey also offers the chance to witness stunning sunsets. In the afternoon, we'll cross the river and embark on a 30-minute walk to the serene Machuwasi Lake.

n the early morning, we embark on a brief 20-minute downstream to the parrots' clay lick. This is a prime opportunity to observe a variety of parrots, including the vibrant green parrots, blue-headed parrot (Pionus Menstrus), mealy parrot (Amazona farinosa), and the chestnut-fronted macaw (Ara severa), among others.
