Itinerary
1
Sprawling over one-seventh of the area of Jaipur city, the glorious City Palace was built by Sawai Jai Singh II, along with royal court architect Vidyadhar Bhattacharya and Sir Samuel Swinton Jacob. The architecture of the palace is reminiscent of Rajput, Mughal and European influences. Within the Palace, is the Mubarak Mahal, now converted into the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum, which has on display the clothes worn by the mighty King, Sawai Madho Singh I. The well-built king weighed over 250 kilograms, making his royal attire voluminous. Also, visit the Maharani's Palace which has an interesting display of Rajput weaponry dating back to the 15th century. We then head to the Jaipur Observatory or Jantar Mantar. When translated, Jantar Mantar means 'calculation instrument'. Final leg of our day trip, we head to the summer palace of the poet King Sawai Pratap Singh. The Jharokas also served another purpose; letting in a continuous flow of wind to offer respite from the hot summers.
