We’ll drive up and down the hills of Gerês and show you what few people ever get to enjoy. A Keen Tours day trip to Gerês offers a complete experience unfolding the History, Culture and Nature on the Peneda-Gerês National Park.
Explore the mountains in a small group setting, hiking through centuries old paths that cut through luxuriant woods and reaching the best viewpoints for fantastic views.
Experience a forest included in the European Network of Biogenetic Reserves and a bit of the 318 km (198 miles) of the geira – the roman highway Via XVIII from Braga (former Bracara Augusta) to Astorga (Asturica Augusta), in Spain.
Depending on the weather, bathe in the fresh, clear waters of the mountain waterfalls or soak in the hot springs used since (at least) the romans, admire the newborn baby horses in the woods or enjoy the magnificent colour palette of the leaves falling – whatever the season, the tour is bound to amaze you.

Itinerary

Peneda-Geres National Park
The Peneda-Gerês National Park (PNPG), with its 700 km2, goes from the Mourela plateau to the one in Castro Laboreiro, and includes the mountain ranges of Peneda, Soajo, Amarela and Gerês.
The only Portuguese National Park presents na impressive bothanical diversity - woods, forests, riparian vegetation, peatlands and moist woods – with special relevance to the several rare and endemic species.
The PNPG is home to some of the most important oak forests in Portugal and interesting semi-natural habitats that shelter a diversity of animals with differentiated constitution: endemic (gold-striped salamander), endangered (iberian wolf), limited distribution species (whinchat)...
In the agricultural mosaic the prairies and lime meadows stand out. Rich historical and cultural heritage (megalithic necropolis, traces of Romanization, castles, granaries, ovens, mills, dams, terraces, etc.) to which must be added the curious implantation of mountain villages and the presence of well-preserved traditional architecture sets.
