Itinerary
1
Leonidas Monument Leonidas, a Spartan king, is remembered for his heroic last stand against a massive Persian army at the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC. He led a force of around 300 Spartans (along with allied soldiers) who held the narrow pass for three days, buying precious time for the rest of Greece to prepare for the Persian invasion. There's a monument dedicated to Leonidas and his brave stand at Thermopylae. It features a statue of the king and often includes the inscription "Molon labe" (Come and take them) - a defiant response attributed to Leonidas when the Persians demanded their surrender.
