In this hands-on demonstration, we'll teach you the basics of making your own biltong sticks - how to select your meat, cut, marinade, season, cure, and store it. We offer vegans a surprisingly good alternative and bet you'll become addicted, too! Find out how an English 'Soutie' like me married an Afrikaans 'Boeremeisie' and how we combine our distinct and different cultures. Learn about the origin of the Afrikaans language (the only European language born in Africa!) We'll teach you a few expressions over a strong 'moerkoffie' served in a tin mug along with a piece of Soutie's homemade Karringmelkbeskuit. We create a fun, relaxed atmosphere with Boeremusiek (folk music) and some catchy Afrikaans songs to showcase our rainbow nation's authentic, warmhearted hospitality. Be prepared for tall tales, snippets of history, and a few classic Afrikaans sayings to spice up your conversations during this unique cultural experience.

What To Expect

Come experience the taste of South Africa with a biltong-making workshop!

Join us in our cosy "voorkamer" (lounge) for a hands-on demonstration on how to make your own biltong. We'll teach you everything you need to know, from selecting the right meat to curing and storing it.

Biltong is a South African dried meat snack that is different from American jerky. It is made with beef, game meat, or ostrich, and is seasoned with a blend of spices that is unique to South Africa.

We also offer a vegan option that is surprisingly good!

You'll also get to learn about the history and culture of South Africa. We'll tell you about the Khoisan hunter-gatherers who invented biltong, the pioneers of the Great Trek who added the spice, and the English "Soutie" who married an Afrikaans "Boeremeisie."

We'll also create a fun, relaxed atmosphere with Boeremusiek (folk music) and some catchy Afrikaans songs. You'll learn a few local expressions and taste some of Soutie's homemade Karringmelkbeskuit.

Guests will get a sample of biltong sticks to eat or take home. There will also be an opportunity to buy more.

This is a unique cultural experience that you won't want to miss!
