The most famous hiking destination in Greece is Samaria Gorge, which belongs to the ‘’National Park of Samaria’’ and ‘’Lefka Ori Conservation Area’’.
The 16 km hike starts from Omalo’s plateau at an altitude of 1230 meters ending on the south coast to the small remote coastal village of Agia Roumeli. The rocky descent path leads us through ancient forests with cypress trees over 2000 years old, to the most impressive part of the gorge with high cliffs above us and narrow passages that cross the river multiple times, offering different views and surprising us at every turn. Hiking in the Samaria Gorge is a short film that gives you an idea of how the Cretan landscape was formed and created.
Our hike will end at Agia Roumeli where we will have free time for a refreshing swim in the clear blue waters, lunch, and relaxation.
