Itinerary

London to Hever Castle, Kent then to Dover, Kent

1
Hever Castle & Gardens We follow a guided tour of the ancestral home and gardens of Anne Boleyn, Second wife of Henry VIII - sent to the Tower for execution. The Castle was purchased by William Waldorf Astor, the American multi-millionaire. Hever Castle became the place to be seen at the turn of the 20th century. It is a storybook castle with a moat and drawbridge! After the tour we head to the Henry VIII Pub (built in 1597) across from the castle's main gate. After lunch, we head to our hotel just outside Dover. Weather and time permitting we may see a fabulous 12th-century church at Barfrestone, Kent - a real gem in rural England.

Duration:  3 hours

Dover Castle and Canterbury Cathedral

1
Dover Castle We follow guided tours of the 12th-century castle - First a Medieval Tour and then a WW2 Tour as Dover Castle was the Headquarters for the Escape from Dunkirk 1940.

Duration:  4 hours

2
Canterbury Cathedral Here we visit one of the most breathtaking medieval creations in England. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is the head cathedral of the Church of England and its Archbishop is its spiritual leader. The church is also where St Thomas Becket was murdered in 1170 by knights who took Henry II's wishes too literally! The interior is awe-inspiring and its stain glass is simply miraculous to behold on a sunny day.
