Las Bovedas
The Plaza de las Bóvedas is the last work of the colonial period within the fortified perimeter. It is located north of the walled city, between the forts of Santa Clara and Santa Catalina. Styled as an 18th- and 19th-century European opera house, the Heredia Theater, officially known as the Adolfo Mejía Theater, was built in the shape of a horseshoe, with boxes and balconies divided by lace-like cedar lattices. It was built on the old church of La Merced and was inaugurated in 1911 with the performance of the floral games.
