District Six
District Six in Cape Town, South Africa, holds significant historical and cultural importance. It was originally established as a mixed community of freed slaves, merchants, artisans, and immigrants in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The area thrived as a vibrant and diverse neighborhood, characterized by its rich cultural tapestry and close-knit community.
However, during the apartheid era in the 1960s, District Six was designated as a "whites-only" area under the Group Areas Act of 1950. This led to the forced removal of over 60,000 residents, who were predominantly people of color, from their homes.
