Been dreaming about visiting Machu Picchu and experience the thousand year old traditions Peru has to offer?

This two week trip discovering Peru’s south has it all: stunning ancient ruins, off the beaten path adventures, delicious traditionally prepared foods and newly discovered natural wonders. We have put together a trip with all our favourite experiences from our travels in the region. As Peru is already quite explored and attractions can be very touristy, except for Machu Picchu, we will venture away from the usual tourist activities.

Lima Lima is famous for its cuisine and you can find some of the best Peruvian ceviche here. After a free morning, we head to the district of Chorillos, somehow a fisherman's village inside the city of Lima. We willnot only sample some authentic ceviches, but also have a sneak peek in the kitchen and see how it is prepared. After that, the afternoon is for exploring historic centre. From the prestigious Plaza de Armas you can explore the cathedral, the monastery or the close by catacombs and stroll around the bustling streets. When it's getting dark, we will be heading over to Circuito Magico del Agua and enjoy the indulgence of the illuminated fountains.

Don't worry, you will sleep on actual mattresses tonight! First we ride on sand buggies through the dunes and then we will enjoy some sandboarding with a view of the city of Ica. Before going back to the camp, you will see one of the best sunsets in the middle of the dunes. Back at the campsite, a delicious barbecue awaits us. We will enjoy our meal and some drinks before dancing the night away by the bonfire. Oh, and there is also a surprise waiting for you!

Huacachina After a good night sleep under the stars of the desert, we head through the dunes to the oasis of Huacachina. Here we will enjoy breakfast with a relaxing day in the oasis ahead of us. We will be based in a hostel with a pool during the day. So you can either just relax by the pool, venture out and explore the big dunes around the area or you can sit back and enjoy the waters of the oasis. In the evening we will then take a night bus from Ica to the city of Arequipa. Don't worry, the night bus seats recline 180 degrees and make for quite comfy beds.

Arequipa We arrive in Arequipa in the morning, so you have the whole day to relax and explore the city by yourself. Known as the white city, Arequipa has undoubtedly stunning architecture and in our opinion the most beautiful Plaza de Armas in Peru. Next to its beauty, Arequipa has to offer so much more. You can visit the monastery, head up to the viewpoint and enjoy an incredible view over the city and the volcanos around or enjoy the delicious food the city has to offer.

Cusco

Machu Picchu Today is the day! We will get up quite early at around 4 am and start our hike up to Machu Picchu. We will arrive at the entrance about at 6 am and enjoy the morning by exploring the UNESCO World Heritage site first by ourselves and during the later morning also with our guide. Shortly before lunchtime, we will make our way back to Aguas Calientes, where you have time for lunch and exploring the town before we take the most scenic train back to Cusco. Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain

1
This is another early morning. We will be picked up at around 3.30 am by a private minivan and make our way about four hours south of Cusco. Shortly before the end of our car journey, we stop at a pre-Inkan bridge, where we can enjoy the sunrise while having some coffee, tea and breakfast. Another hour later, we will arrive at our destination: the Palcoyo rainbow mountains. Compared to the better known Vinicunca, Palcoyo only sees a hand full of tourists every day but is equally as stunning and instead of one, you will see 4 rainbow mountains! On the 45 min hike, you can observe scenic mountains, watch alpacas graze and will even get a view of the snowy Ausangate mountain. We will enjoy our packed lunch before heading back to Cusco, where we return at around 3-4pm. So you have enough time for some rest before dinner time.

Cusco - Indigenous Community

1
Sacred Valley Today is for food lovers! After breakfast, we will be picked up and make our way to a small Quechua community in the Sacred Valley. Some of the women of the community will show us how to prepare Pachamanca - an 8000-year-old cooking technique. This barbecue is traditionally used for special occasions, like weddings or big birthday celebrations. Hot rocks are heated up over hours and then potatoes, meat and vegetables are cooked covered with the hot stones. While the stones are doing their magic, we will get to know our hosts and learn about their traditional dresses, how they make the garments and what a day in the life of a Quechua woman looks like. Back in Cusco, we will have some time to rest before heading out to a goodbye dinner at our favourite restaurant in the city.
