Leonidas Monument Brief stop to visit the place where the Battle of Thermopylae took place. The brave king of the Spartans, Leonidas together with his 300 men and 700 Thespians defended the country against the Persian army of Xerxes I. The Persian wars are the most important in world history that influenced the European continent and the sacrifice of the Greek soldiers was inspired as one of the bravest acts of heroism.
