The eastern side of Sugarloaf referred to as the Costão, allows for an enchanting hike up to the top of the mountain, providing you with spectacular views of the sea, forest, and mountain, as well as the lovely city of Niterói, all in one place. After enjoying the views at the top of the mountain, we will come down by cable car, which is also included in the price. The cable car will take us to Morro da Urca, the smaller mountain next to Sugar Loaf. From there, we will walk down the trail to get back to the Claudio Coutinho path.

What To Expect

To go up on Sugarloaf starts at the end of the paved, shaded Cláudio Coutinho path in Urca. The hike is mostly on rock slab, with the last section going through closed vegetation. 3/4 of the way up there is a short, 25-meter section that must be climbed using climbing equipment (a rope and a harness). While the hike and the short climb can be done by people of all ages, it must be led by an experienced climber. The journey lasts 5 hours on average, with stops for photos and rest.
