Mosque of Ibn Tulun
The second oldest mosque still standing in Cairo, Ibn Tulun Mosque, was built between AD 876 and 879 and modeled on the Kaaba in Mecca (Saudi Arabia). At the time it was built, it was the largest mosque in existence.The Mosque was built by Al Amir Ahmed Ibn Tulun, founder of the Tulunid Dynasty. The mosque is known for its varied gypsum ornamentation and engravings. It has a unique minaret with staircase from the outside.

Gayer-Anderson Museum (Bayt al-Kiritliya)
The museum was founded in 1937 in two ancient residences, the Beit el-Kiridiliya from 1632 and the Beit Amna Bent Salim from 1540. In the museum, you will come across the private collection of Major Gayer-Anderson besides furniture, glassware, crystal, carpets, silks and embroidered Arab costumes. Several rooms on the third floor have been reconstructed to house the collections.

Mosque and Madrasa of Sultan Hassan
One of the finest examples of Mameluke architecture in the world, Sultan Hassan Mosque is a vision of Arabic artistry with an abundance of stalactite detailing and intricate arabesque features. It was built in 1356-63 for Sultan Hassan Ibn Mohammed Ibn Qalawoun in the 14th century as a mosque and school for the four Islamic doctrines. It covers an area of 7,906 meter square, with a 38-meter high entrance - the most splendid entrance of Islamic monuments in Egypt..
The exterior, with its large areas of stone, is reminiscent of an ancient Egyptian temple. The massive main doorway at the north corner is almost 26 meters high, and the minaret at the south corner is the tallest in Cairo at 81.5 meters.

Al-Azhar Mosque
It is the first mosque of Fatimide Cairo, built by Jawhar Al-Sekelli, commander of the armies of Al-Mo’ez le Din Allah. The mosque has three minarets, one if which is a twin minaret from the age of Sultan Al Ghoury.
