Marrakech - Atlas Mountains - Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate - Skoura -Roses Valley - Dades
1
After leaving Marrakech, we will drive across the Atlas Mountains. A Maghreb mountain range that separates the Sahara Desert from the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts. It runs across Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia for around 2,500 kilometers (1,600 miles). With an elevation of 4,167 meters, Toubkal, located in central Morocco, is the highest peak in the range (13,671 ft). Berbers make up the majority of the population in the Atlas Mountains. In several Berber languages, the words for mountain are adrar and adras. These words are thought to be cognates of Atlas, the toponym. The mountains also shelter a variety of animals and plants, the most of which are located in Africa but some of which may also be found in Europe. We will have few stops to enjoy the views and a break for a cup of tea or coffe.

Our final destination will be Dades, Millions of years ago, the region that is now the Dadès Gorges was at the bottom of the sea. Large amounts of silt were deposited over massive coral reefs, which eventually compacted into a variety of sedimentary rocks including sandstone and limestone.
