Casablance

Casablanca Pick-up: Your driver will pick you up at the Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, or at your accommodation in Casablanca, for a day of sightseeing in Casablanca itself.

Hassan II Mosque You first stop on this Imperial City Tour is at the Hassan II mosque in Casablanca. This mosque is the 2nd largest mosque in Africa and the 7th largest in the world, having space for 105,000 worshippers, with the 2nd tallest minaret in the world. The mosque is also unique in that it is the one of the only mosques in Morocco that allows non-Muslims to enter. In order to enter, you can take an optional guided tour (at additional cost), which is offered Sat - Thurs at 9, 10, & 11 am, and 2 & 3 pm, and Fridays at 9 & 10 am and 2 & 3 pm. If you aren't interested in the tour, you can still walk around the huge courtyard and terrace of the mosque, have gorgeous views out over the Atlantic Ocean, and watch the children playing in the waves.

Rabat, Chefchaouen

Rabat Your guide will take you on a tour of the city of Rabat, one of the only cities where you can actually see a small part of the inside of the King's Palace. You will also visit the opulent tomb of Mohammed V, the massive Hassan Tower on top of a mosque, and three historical walls: the Almohad Wall, the Andalusian Wall, and the Alawite Wall. If you are an art lover, the Mohamed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art is worth a stop; admission is extra.

Chefchaouen Drive from Rabat to Chefchaouen: Your guide will point out the sights along the way. Feel free to ask for stops to take photos, to get a drink or snack, or to take a photo of the spectacular scenery.

Chefchaouen Dinner: When you arrive in Chefchaouen, your driver will take you directly to your accommodation, where you will have dinner and can then relax in the evening. You can take an evening stroll in the quiet streets of the city after dinner.

Chefchaouen, Volubilis, and Fes

Chefchaouen After breakfast, you will have free time to stroll around the streets of Chefchaouen. You can visit the main square, Plaza Uta El-Hammam, where the amazing 15th-century Grand Mosque sits. This mosque and surrounding structures were built by Jewish refugees who alongside Muslims escaped Spanish persecution and fled to Chefchaouen. Or you can just sit and watch local people go by. If you are feeling energetic, you can stroll to nearby green hillsides to the scenic Ras El Maa Waterfall, or take a short, slightly strenuous hike to a scenic overlook with panoramic views of the Blue City.

Volubilis Drive to Volubilis: In the afternoon, your driver will take you from Chefchaouen to the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis. You will have lunch in a small town along the way. As you drive, you will pass through olive tree orchards where you can, if you want, stop to buy fresh-pressed olive oil. You will also have a chance to stop for a panoramic view at the dam.

Volubilis These remarkable ruins provide a peek into the lives of both Romans, who inhabited this area 2000 years ago, and Berbers who lived here after the Romans were gone. As you walk around the ruins, you will see the Roman city's capitol, the triumphal arch of Caracalla, thermal baths, a basilica, and a main artery lined with villas decorated with precious mosaics. Volubilis is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Although your guide is available to escort you around the site, you can also hire a specialist guide for Volubilis, at an extra charge, who will give you more details about the history of the site.

Fez The final destination for the day is the ancient medina of Fes. Your driver will bring you directly to your accommodation, located in a quiet neighborhood of the medina, with easy access to the main attractions. After you arrive at the hotel, you will be welcomed by Moroccan mint tea, then have time to settle into your room. Dinner will be served at the hotel, and features local Moroccan specialties.

Fes - Full day walking and driving and tour

Fes el-Bali After breakfast, your driver and guide will meet you to begin your tour of the Fes medina with a drive around the city walls. You will see the old cemetery, several forts, and make stops for panoramic views. The tour guide will show you places where you can enjoy a lunch. After lunch, you will continue with a walking tour inside the medina, highlighted by visits to many architectural sites, the famous tannery, many artisans making a variety of crafts including carpets, pottery, brass and silver work, and markets for fresh food.

Travel across the Mid-Atlas, Immouzer, Azrou, Iftrane, Midelt, to Merzouga

Ifrane The first stop in the Atlas Mountains is a short visit to the city of Ifrane, known as the Switzerland of North Africa. You will drive through clean shady streets, and if lucky you will get your photo taken with the famous stone lion, said to be a German carving of the last living lion of the Atlas, hunted down in the 1920s.

Azrou Cedar Forest Home to massive cedar trees, this beautiful forested area also provides shelter for ever-hungry Barbary macaques (Barbary apes) who happily sit for photos while you feed them peanuts, which are for sale at a roadside stand nearby.

Midelt The lovely small town of Midelt, with its picturesque views of the mountains, is the stop where you will enjoy lunch in a local restaurant serving Moroccan dishes.

Merzouga The final destination for your trip is the town of Merzouga, at the edge of the Erg Chebby Dunes. You will be welcomed with a cup of Moroccan mint tea at your hotel.

Merzouga, Erg Chebby Dunes and the Sahara Desert

Merzouga After breakfast, you will have the opportunity to tour the sites around Merzouga, at the edge of the Erg Chebbie Dunes. You can visit a nearby lake with the chance of seeing some interesting wildlife and birds; you can visit the town of Rissani with its excellent market, and you can try Berber Pizza (ask your guide for details) at lunchtime.

Merzouga In the afternoon, you will have free time either for resting in the hotel or for some shopping in the town center of Merzouga. Ask a shopkeeper to show you how to wrap a brightly-colored cloth around your head, in true Berber style, for your upcoming camel ride across the dunes.

Erg Chebbi At 4:00 pm, you will go to the departure point for your camel ride across the dunes. The camel driver will lead your group of camels for about 45 minutes to an hour, then you will arrive at your desert tent in time to watch the sunset from the top of the nearest dune.

Erg Chebbi Dunes You will have dinner of Moroccan tagine in the desert camp, then you are invited to join the guides and camel drivers for a musical evening around the campfire. While you enjoy the starry skies overhead, you can listen to the delightful music of the local people.

Merzouga to Ouarzazate

Merzouga After enjoying an amazing sunrise over the Erg Chebbi Dunes, you will have breakfast at the desert camp. They you will get back on your camel for the return ride to Merzouga. You guide will escort you back to the same hotel to take a shower and get ready for the day's journey.

Gargantas del Todra Leaving Merzouga, you will head up into the High Atlas Mountains for your day's destination of Ouarzazate. The first thing you will see is the amazing "Gargantas del Todra", or Todra Gorge, known as the most spectacular river canyon in the world. You will follow the road past many small Berber villages, until high walls of pink and grey limestone rock close in around the road. You will feel as though you are passing through the gates of heaven.

Skoura After passing through the Todra Gorge, suddenly you will enter into the green oasis of the Skoura Palm Groves. These palms are some of the rarest in Morocco, all found within an area only 25 square kilometers in size. The whispers of palm trees are powered by the gentle breezes, and their song is enhanced by the natural sounds of crickets, frogs, birds and the flowing water nearby, creating its own little corner of paradise.

El Kelaa M'gouna Next you will follow the “Route of the One Thousand Kasbahs”, until you arrive at Kalaat Mgouna, known as the City of the Roses. A Festival of Roses takes place here every May for 7 days to celebrate the season of roses. The area is famous for its rose products that range from perfume, rose water, oil, to cosmetic products, which are available at shops along the way.

Ouarzazate The Hollywood (or "Ouallywood") of Morocco, Ouarzazate is home to movie studios who have used the remarkable terrain to appear like such exotic places as Tibet, Syria, Egypt, Rome, and of course, the fictional landscape for Game of Thrones. You will arrive here in the middle of the day for plenty of time to explore the sites. There is the Atlas Film Studio, where many famous films have been made, as well as the Cinema Museum (Musée de Cinema). You can also visit two famous Casbahs, Taourirt and Tifoltoute, which have also appeared in films.

Ouarzazate to Marrakech

Ait Ben Haddou Your first stop in the morning will be a visit to the spectacular Ait Benhaddou, which is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the most important stop on the “Route of the One Thousand Kasbahs”, a string of small fortifications that allowed the caravans of trade to travel between the Sahara Desert and the city of Marrakesh. It is still inhabited and used as the setting for movies such as “Gladiator” and “Game of Thrones”.

Tizi n Tichka Next you will travel further up into the High Atlas Mountains and experience the incredibly scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass, considered the gateway to the Sahara Desert. The rocky mountain passes will remind you of an old Western movie, and there will be plenty of time to stop for photographs.

Imlil Proceeding on your route, you will reach the charming mountaintop village of Imlil, which is very popular with hikers as it is near to the mountain Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in northern Africa. The village is lovely, cool and green, and a welcome break from the heat of the lower regions.

Marrakech Descending from the High Atlas Mountains, you will finally arrive in the exciting city of Marrakech. Your driver will take you direclty to your hotel, where you can settle in and rest before you set out to explore this remarkable city over the next two days.

Marrakech Today you will have a full day to explore the amazing sites that Marrakech has to offer. No visit is complete without time at the Djemaa El Fna, the very famous market square with everything from snake charmers to street musicians, and lots of food stalls serving a variety of Moroccan delicacies. You may also choose from a variety of museums to visit, including the Yves Saint Laurent Museum made in the fashion designer's gorgeous private home with spectacular gardens next door, the Bahai Palace with its incredible mosaic and tilework, or the Saadian Tombs, known as the "Jewel of the Golden Age of Marrakech".
