This hike is not just a trek, but a tribute to Fossey’s relentless efforts to save these magnificent creatures from the brink of extinction.
Fossey, an American primatologist, arrived in the Virunga region and spearheaded a campaign for gorilla conservation. Despite facing opposition and ultimately losing her life for the cause, her work led to a significant increase in the gorilla population.
As you reach the gravesite, you’ll learn about the history of gorilla tourism in the Virunga conservation area and the lifestyles of the endangered gorillas. This hike is a chance to step into Fossey’s shoes, to understand her passion, and to witness the impact of her work.
