The area gets its name from the Abbey of Saint-Germain, whose Romanesque church — rebuilt after the French Revolution — remains at the very same location chosen in the 5th century by the Merovingian King Childebert I, son of Clovis. It is called the ‘Latin Quarter’ because it is located where the Romains had established a little town called ‘Lutetia’.
Quartier Latin is the intellectual heart of Paris. Here you will find the famous Sorbonne University, one of the oldest and most famous universities of the world.

With the Pantheon, architect Jacques-Germain Soufflot met Louis XV’s wish to glorify the monarchy in the form of a church dedicated to Saint Geneviève, the patron saint of Paris. The Revolution in 1789 transformed the monument into a temple for Great Men.

Luxembourg Gardens
A great place for a picnic and a stroll.
The palace and gardens were created between 1612 and 1617 commissioned by Marie de’ Medici, who tired of life in the Louvre, wanted an Italian style palace built in memory of her childhood in Florence.
