Mount Bisoke in an active volcano in the Virunga Mountains of the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African Rift. It straddles the border of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but the summit is located in Rwanda.
Mount Bisoke stands at an elevation of 3,711 meters (12,175 feet) and is known for its steep slopes, rugged terrain, and beautiful Crater Lake. The hike to the summit of Mount Bisoke is a popular activity for visitors to Rwanda, and it typically takes about 6 to 7 hours round trip to complete.
The trail to the summit of Mount Bisoke passes through dense rainforest, bamboo forests, and open moorland before reaching the crater rim. From the rim, hikers can take a short detour to reach the shore of the Crater Lake, which is surrounded by steep cliffs and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
Mount Bisoke is an important site for conservation efforts in the region, visitors are encouraged to respect the natural environment.

Volcanoes National Park
Our driver guide will pick you from your hotel in Kigali at 04h00 am, and then drive to Volcanoes National Park in northwestern Rwanda (the drive lasts 2h). Arriving on time for registration and briefing about your Mount Bisoke hike activity at park's headquarters.
The starting point is at an elevation of 2,700 meters above the sea level, walk through the local communities and the farmlands at the edge of the park for about 15 minutes before crossing the stone wall into the park.
Take on the hiking trail and trek through the different vegetation zones along the volcano ranging from little bamboo that ends at 2,800 meters, through hagenia hypericum from 2,800 to 3200 meters, to sub alpine at the top. At 3711 elevation, Finally get to summit which is flat with a big Crater Lake measuring about 400 meters of diameter and estimated depth of about 100 meters. Eat your packed snacks and embark on the trek back down, a faster one but slippery.
Have lunch, and drive back to Kigali.
